Recover From Injury

Running Accomplishments:

I ran Varsity Track and Field in high school and was primarily a sprinter (100m, 200m). I also did the 400m, 4x400m, long jump and triple jump. Sprinting comes most naturally to me, but I am opening myself up to trying new things and increasing my endurance. I didn't get into running any long distance events until I met Benn and I'm still getting used to it!

Short-Term Running Goals:

I sprained my ankle the night before Thanksgiving 2008 which forced me to come back from that injury. Right now I am primarily doing running workouts in the 5k range, hiking, trail running, and some cycling. I also do lot of stretching and some free weight exercises, along with some cardio & yoga here and there.

Long-Term Running Goals:

 To stay healthy and active. To make exercise a permanent part of my life. To act as a roll model for wellness.

Personal:

I live in the Berkshires in western Massachusetts. Earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology. Am currently working at a day spa but am taking steps to work in a laboratory. Getting marriedto the guy of my dreams, Benn, in October 2010 and am honored to be able to spend the rest of my life with him. Lots of excitement and planning to do, but taking it all in "stride".

Ran on the treadmill again tonight (all at 2% incline). Started out at 6.2mph and quickly revved it up to 6.5mph for the first 6 minutes. Kicked up the speed again to 7.0mph with some intervals at 7.5mph. Ran the last 5 minutes or so at a constant 7.5mph. Then lightly jogged a mile cool down at 5.0mph. Finished up with lots of stretching.

Ran on the treadmill tonight (all at 2% incline). Did the first 10 minutes at 6.4mph and then stretched. Jumped back on and increased to 6.5mph for another 10 minutes. Afterward, switched down a notch to 6.2mph for the final 10 minutes. Stretched nicely afterward and went upstairs to visit with my aunt who is spending the night!

Stretched and did Power90 Cardio 3-4 tonight. (Power yoga, jumping jacks, leg work, arm work, kickboxing, etc). Then did crunches FINALLY- around 280 total. Stretched.

Had a bit of time this evening to exercise on the elliptical. Did 30 minutes alternating from resistance levels 5 and 6. Swung my arms around a lot to try to burn more calories.

Just not happy lately... I feel like a shadow of myself. I hope I feel better soon. I hate this feeling.

Did another half hour on the elliptical this morning. Started out at level 4 resistance for the first 10 minutes for a warm up. My legs were still a little sore from last night on the elliptical. For the last 20 minutes, alternated between level 5 and 6 resistances. Stretched a lot afterward.

Was at Benn's house on super bowl weekend. Then packed him up and moved him here to my house! SO EXCITED to spend lots of time with him. I can't wait for nice weather to get to go on adventures with him!

Worked out on the elliptical tonight while Benn ran on the treadmill. Did a 8 minute warm up at resistance level 4, then amped it up for intervals at resistances 5 and 6. Very hot in the basement but I am glad Benn encouraged me to have an exercise date with him. Stretched afterward.

Went on the elliptical tonight. Started out the first 10 minutes at resistance level 4 and then spent about another 5 minutes or so at resistance level 5. Sweat quite a bit during the last 20 minutes at resistance level 6. (It's HOT in here!) Whewph!

Went for a quick run on the treadmill before having a celebratory dinner with Benn tonight for his acceptance to the long-term American history substitute job!! We are both so excited! I know this is going to be good for him :)

All at 2% incline, ran the first 6 minutes at a 6.2mph warm up. Then increased speed to 6.5mph for a few more minutes. Did the whole rest of the run at 7.0mph. Stretched afterward and ordered vegetarian Indian food! MMMMMMMM........

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Benn had to work until 5:30pm in Saratoga, so I didn't get to see him until tonight. Meanwhile, I did a lot that I needed to get accomplished, as well as cleaned the house, made a little Valentine's gift for Benn, and baked a spiced squash pie from scratch! Also got to run on the treadmill right before he got home. Did the first 10 minute warm-up at 6.5mph and then jumped off to stretch. Then got back on at 7.5mph with intervals at 7.0mph for the rest of the run. Felt good! Stretched again and met Benn upstairs for dinner!

Got home from Boston today and had an exercise date with Benn this evening. Went on the elliptical while Benn ran on the treadmill. Did the first 4 minutes warm up at level 4 resistance. Then amped it up to resistance levels 5 and 6 with a couple short intervals at level 7. Then did a total of 260 crunches (9 different positions @ 25 each and 1 position @ 30).

Had an exercise date with Benn tonight. He ran on the treadmill while I used the elliptical. I started out at resistance level 4 for a few minutes and then increased the resistance to level 5 for a few more minutes. Then I increased to resistance level 6 and did intervals at level 7. Once I hit the 25 minute mark, I took a 2 or 3 minute break to do warmed-up leg stretches. Hopped back on for more intervals at levels 6 and 7. Finished up and did more stretching, leg lifts, and a few lunges.  Then stretched again of course! (I love the stretching part!!)

Took turns with Benn for running on the treadmill. All at 2% incline, I ran the first mile warm up at 6.2-6.3mph. Then ran the bulk of the run at 6.3-6.4mph. Did the last mile at 7.0mph with a 2-minute interval at 9.0mph. Whewph! Then did a 0.12 mile cool down at a 4.3mph walk. Stretched. Having a little pain in the back of my heel- not sure what that's about.

Shoveled the driveway, the deck, and a path to the front door in the snow storm for about an hour. Had to dig the end of my driveway out 3 times because of the plows. My arms kinda ached toward the end and my lower back totally sucks when I shovel. But, at least I got a bit of a workbout. I feel guilty about not running on the treadmill today, but my legs are too sore.

Did Power90 Cardio 3-4 this afternoon (poer yoga, kickboxing, running, rumping jacks, etc!). Stretched really well, hopped in th shower, and had to run a bunch of errands today. When I got home Benn called to say that he was on his way home, so I waited for him to have a workout date together. He ran on the treadmill while I did crunches (total approx. 260; 8 positions @ 25 each and 2 positions @ 30 each), toe-touches, and lunges. Stretched a lot afterward :)

Shoveled for a half hour outside today around 3pm. Having a hard time thinking of new ideas for dinner and I don't want to disappoint Benn after a long day of work.. Did 270 crunches (6 positions at 25 each & 4 positions at 30 each) while Benn ran on the treadmill. Also did leg lifts and stretching. Wanted to run but just didn't get the chance. Felt kind of blah and had a headache today.

All at 2% incline, I ran on the treadmill at 6.2mph for 10 minutes.. felt sick to my stomach and realized I was REALLY hungry. Took a break and went upstairs for some food (an apple, a mango, and a bagel!). After I felt better, I got back on the treadmill again at 6.5mph for 6 minutes and then amped it up to 7.0mph for the remained of my 3.55 mile run. Afterward, I did leg lifts and stretches. I will probably do crunches tonight when Benn runs on the treadmill.

Had an exercise date with Benn today while watching the Winter Olympics. I started by working out on the elliptical for 20 minutes at resistance level 5 with intervals at level 6. Then got off to do several leg stretches, leg lifts, and a teeny-tiny bit of power yoga. Got back on the elliptical for a tad over 10 minutes at resistance level 5 with intervals at level 6. Finished up with more stretching.
