Recover From Injury

Running Accomplishments:

I ran Varsity Track and Field in high school and was primarily a sprinter (100m, 200m). I also did the 400m, 4x400m, long jump and triple jump. Sprinting comes most naturally to me, but I am opening myself up to trying new things and increasing my endurance. I didn't get into running any long distance events until I met Benn and I'm still getting used to it!

Short-Term Running Goals:

I sprained my ankle the night before Thanksgiving 2008 which forced me to come back from that injury. Right now I am primarily doing running workouts in the 5k range, hiking, trail running, and some cycling. I also do lot of stretching and some free weight exercises, along with some cardio & yoga here and there.

Long-Term Running Goals:

 To stay healthy and active. To make exercise a permanent part of my life. To act as a roll model for wellness.

Personal:

I live in the Berkshires in western Massachusetts. Earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology. Am currently working at a day spa but am taking steps to work in a laboratory. Getting marriedto the guy of my dreams, Benn, in October 2010 and am honored to be able to spend the rest of my life with him. Lots of excitement and planning to do, but taking it all in "stride".

At around 11am, stretched and got on treadmill. Ran 3.2 miles at 6.0-6.3mph and 2% incline. Then did a 4.1mph cool down for 0.3 miles. Then did lower ab crunches and then the 2-yr-old boy my family babysits for showed up. He wanted to play on my yoga mat, so I taught him all kinds of stretches and he did (his version) of them along with me. So cute! Then carried him upstairs for breakfast :)

Had breakfast and a bunch of water this morning. Then at 11am, I stretched and went on the treadmill. I ran 3.5 miles at 6.1mph and 2% incline. Then I did a cool down for 0.5 miles at 4.1mph. Stretched again, did some neck stretches because it was a little sore, and lifted free weights. While I was running I noticed some focused pain in my upper right shin (about a half of a hand's length down from my knee). Nothing too serious feeling, but noticeable.

Stretched. Ran on the treadmill at 6.0-6.3mph and 2% incline for 4.1 miles. Then hopped on the elliptical for 1.2 miles. Then stretched and did lowed ab crunches. Also lifted a bunch of free weights.
