Recover From Injury

Running Accomplishments:

I ran Varsity Track and Field in high school and was primarily a sprinter (100m, 200m). I also did the 400m, 4x400m, long jump and triple jump. Sprinting comes most naturally to me, but I am opening myself up to trying new things and increasing my endurance. I didn't get into running any long distance events until I met Benn and I'm still getting used to it!

Short-Term Running Goals:

I sprained my ankle the night before Thanksgiving 2008 which forced me to come back from that injury. Right now I am primarily doing running workouts in the 5k range, hiking, trail running, and some cycling. I also do lot of stretching and some free weight exercises, along with some cardio & yoga here and there.

Long-Term Running Goals:

 To stay healthy and active. To make exercise a permanent part of my life. To act as a roll model for wellness.

Personal:

I live in the Berkshires in western Massachusetts. Earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology. Am currently working at a day spa but am taking steps to work in a laboratory. Getting marriedto the guy of my dreams, Benn, in October 2010 and am honored to be able to spend the rest of my life with him. Lots of excitement and planning to do, but taking it all in "stride".

Terrible, horrible, hectic day at work. Finally got on the elliptical after work and did the "Fat Burn" workout of solid intervals of resistance levels 11 and 9. Did a cool down at resistance level 11, then finally 10. Stretched afterward and drove home to make dinner for Benn.

Gym hours are shortened for the summer and close at 8:30pm on the weekdays. I think that stinks, but it is even worse on the weekends - Sat at 5:30. and Sun at 4:30pm. Yuck. Anyways, I went to the gym tonight while Benn went to the high school track. I did the elliptical on "Fat Burner" mode with plateaued intervals at resistance levels 11 and 12. Then switched over to the treadmill for a 10 minute cooldown. Started out slow at 4.9mph and graduated up to 6.0mph. Stretched my legs and went to the weight room to do some ab and arm exercises.

More travel again this weekend... really trying to get a break to exercise!! Feeling bad about myself and wanting to do more... but with zero time to make it happen. Ugghh. I cannot wait until this crazy travel-everywhere for family/friends obligations stuff is over. I need some "me time" to just be able to focus on ME.

Went for a run with Benn on the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail. Dreary weather all day long but we missed the rain pours while we were outdoors. Afterward, stopped at Panera for lunch and then grocery shopping. TONS to do...

Ran at the Ashuwillticook Rail rail with Benn. Interviewed and got a new job and then went and got my first hair trim in 7 months!!!! Eeek! Started at Lulu's today (versus at the Pittsfield parking lot). Beautiful lake views for the 2.02 mile run. Then stretched.

Went trail running with Benn after work today at Olivia's Overlook. 3.5 mile loop of hills and dips. Stretched and did a cool down moderate-paced walk for 2.2 miles. Felt good :)

Did Power90 Cardio 3-4 today after work while Benn ran on the treadmill downstairs. The workout included power yoga,  step, jumping jacks, running, leg work, kickboxing, etc. Afterward I stretched and did a free weight circuit and 4 sets of (4) lunges  and (12) squats (in 3 different squat positions). Stretched again.

Ran 5.2 miles on the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail today. Gray and damn outside but tons of humidity - yucko. Felt good today minus just a little leg soreness in the beginning. Run took just about 45 minutes.

4.2 miles at the gym. Did the elliptical on "weight loss" mode for 35 minutes with intervals at resistance levels 9 and 10. Stretched and went down to the weight room for crunches, arms and legs exercises.

Ran on Burbank Trail near Olivia's Overlook with Benn. Hot and humid in the upper 80's, but was in desperate need of a workout after working non-stop during the week.

Hiked up Monument Mountain with Benn and his younger brother, Harry. We raced and jogged on the way down and sweat a ton. High in the 80's and the most humidity I have ever felt!
